The Truth Is I Am You is a floating poem, highlighting the practices of co-existence that exemplify culturally diverse communities like those found in New York City. As a continuation of The Truth Project, this installment is printed on silver helium inflated balloons, referencing Andy Warhol’s 1966 work, Silver Clouds. Each balloon displays a single line from the poem translated into the 25 most spoken languages by New York City residents.
Starting with, “The truth is I am you” and ending with “The truth is I love you,” this piece attempts to use the 2,000-square-foot exhibition space as a point of entry into other systems of considering who we are, what we value, where we come from, and where we are going.
The Cause Collective is a team of artists, designers, and ethnographers creating innovative art in the public realm. Their projects explore and enliven public spaces by creating a dynamic conversation between issues, sites and the public audience.
